Fall Recap (thru first 2 rounds)

AURORA, Ill. – Despite three all-conference finishers in Zach Hentrich, Matthew Davidson, and Dawson Hinz, the Edgewood College men's golf team couldn't fight their way back from a 3-shot deficit on the final day of the NACC Championships and finished runner-up for the third straight year. The Eagles traded leads back and forth with Aurora, but a steady back nine by the Spartans proved to be the difference on a cloudy, calm final day.

THE BASICS
Final Results:
Edgewood College 2nd of 9 (302-318-314-305-1239)
Location: Stonebridge Country Club (Aurora, Ill., Par 72, 6815 yards)

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Eagles, facing a 4-shot deficit thru two rounds and a 3-shot deficit heading into today's final round, opened up an 8-shot lead midway through the final round, but couldn't hold on as Aurora won by nine shots
-All three of the Eagles top-3 golfers shot bogey or worse on the challenging par-5 18th and the Spartans took advantage
-Aurora shot the only sub-300 round of the entire tourney (299) in the final round and bested the Eagles final round score of 305
-It was a two-team race the entire way as both outdistanced the rest of the field by 34 shots
-Aurora and Edgewood College combined for six of the Top-10 All-NACC finishers
-Hentrich finished his storied career with a final round 76 and earned his fourth All-NACC honor after tying for third-place with teammate Davidson.
-The senior and 2016-17 NACC Champion was his trademark consistent self after posting scores of 77-75-75-76-303 in his final appearance
-Davidson impressed in his first NACC Championships appearance and was remarkably consistent with scores of 75-76-76-76-303. Of the 37 golfers to complete all four rounds, he was the only one to post the same score in three different rounds.
-The freshman tied for third and was named Freshman of the Year along with an All-NACC honor in his only Top-5 finish of the year
-Both Davidson and Hentrich finished four shots back from Concordia Wisconsin's Sam Schlosser (299)
-Hinz placed seventh overall after firing 76-79-82-76-313 for his first All-NACC award
-Jackson Eversoll finished 16th (74-90-82-77-323) and Jensen Peck placed 24th (88-88-81-78-335)

FOR THE OPPONENTS
-Aurora won their second NACC title and first since 2009-2010
-Since going to a four-round format, Aurora set the team scoring record of 1230 that bested the 1232 by Wisconsin Lutheran in 2015-16
-Wisconsin Lutheran, the three-time defending NACC champion, finished fifth overall
-Sam Schlosser from Concordia Wisconsin won the NACC individual title and was the second Falcon to do it, joining Evan Rabas from 2014-15
