Free Throw shooting helps Eagles hold of Warriors

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team held on for a 77-70 win in a back-and-forth NACC contest with Wisconsin Lutheran College Saturday at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. In a game that saw nine ties and 10 lead changes it was the Eagles who made the plays down the stretch for the big conference win. The Eagles stepped up at the free throw line in the win, making 18-of-22. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles trailed 64-61 with 2:25 to go when Jake Negus buried a 3-point make to tie the game at 64-64. That helped spark a 10-2 run, which was capped off by a 3-point make from Sy Staver with 1:04 left, putting the Eagles in front 71-66. Negus and Staver finished the game with 21 and 11 points, respectively, combining for five of the Eagles seven makes from 3-point range.

- Wisconsin Lutheran cut the Eagles lead to 71-68 with 29 seconds left but 6-of-6 free throw shooting down the stretch helped Edgewood College prevail with the league win. Ben Seefeld hit four free throws and McClain Steffens added two in helping the Eagles secure the win.

- The entire contest was a back-and-forth affair. Tied at halftime, neither team led by more than six points (Edgewood College 11:39) in the second half. The Eagles biggest lead in the game was nine points as they started off the game on a 13-4 run. Wisconsin Lutheran had a response and led 30-22 with 3:13 left in the half before the Eagles tied the game at 34-34.

- Emil Radisevic had a big game for Edgewood College. The senior posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Jacob Miller added six rebounds for Edgewood College who finished the game with 36 compared to 40 for the Warriors.

- For the game, Edgewood College made 18-of-22 from the free throw line, good for 81.8 percent. The Eagles came into the game shooting 65.8 percent. The Warriors shot just 63.2 percent (12-for-19) from the line.

THE OPPOSITION
- Collin Kennedy led the Warriors with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Andrew Bruggink added 21 points while Caleb Goldstein chipped in with 13.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will be in Las Vegas next week for two games at the D3Hoops.com Classic. The first of those is set for Thursday against UW-Platteville with the opening jump set for 8 p.m. central time.
