Pioneers pull away from Eagles at D3Hoops.com Classic

LAS VEGAS – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team and UW-Platteville met in Las Vegas on the opening day of the D3Hoops.com Classic. The in-state opponents were in a tight battle until the Pioneers pulled away in the final 10 minutes, resulting in an 80-57 setback for the Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game turned in the final 10 minutes when UW-Platteville went on a run that put the Eagles away. Trailing 48-43, Edgewood College fell victim to an 18-1 run over the next four minutes, putting them in a 66-44 hole.

- UW-Platteville, who led by three at the break, shot 58.6 percent from the floor and 64.3 percent from 3-point range in the second half. The Pioneers buried nine shots from deep after the break, outscoring the Eagles 49-29 over the final 20 minutes. Edgewood College made just 9-of-26 (34.6 percent) of its shots in the second half.

- The Eagles (3-7) and Pioneers (6-4) went back-and-forth in the opening half, which began with an 11-3 Eagles run. Edgewood College buried three of its first four 3-point attempts in taking the eight-point lead.

- Edgewood College continued its early game run as Matthew Myers added a couple more 3-point makes, pushing the Eagles lead to 10 (17-7). Edgewood College extended its lead to a first-half best 11 points (21-10) after a Ben Seefeld made layup with 10:39 to go in the opening half.

- The Pioneers made their first run of the game after the Seefeld layup, rallying off 10-straight points. UW-Platteville wouldn't take its first lead of the game until 5:27 left in the first half when Quentin Shields buried one from long range, putting the Eagles in a 27-25 deficit. The Pioneers ended up taking a 31-28 lead into the break.

- Jake Negus finished with 11 points for the Eagles while Emil Radisevic added eight points and a game-high nine rebounds. Seefeld chipped in with nine points.

THE OPPOSITION
- Shields paced the Pioneers with 21 points, making four shots from 3-point range. Kyle Tuma added four more 3-pointers for UW-Platteville, finishing the contest with 12 points and seven rebounds.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will play a second game in Las Vegas at the D3Hoops.com Classic against Emory & Henry College Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Las Vegas, 8 p.m. central time.
