Smoking Aces! Eagles notch win against Raiders

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College volleyball team came away with a triumphant 3-1 (25-21,22-25, 25-15, 25-17) win against MSOE on Friday night. The Eagles win came behind 18 service aces, the highest number of aces recorded by the Eagles since 2011, and good for a tie for second place in the Edgewood College history books.

Edgewood College (8-12, 5-3 NACC) got off to a slow start in the first set, but kills from Brittany Sager, Cole Jordee, Mackenzie Doherty, and an impressive six kills from Sarah Pfeifer got things back on track. Behind the offense of Pfeifer, and six digs from Sarah Uczen the Eagles came away with a 25-21 win.

After dropping a close second set to MSOE (7-12, 1-5 NACC) that featured five tie scores and two lead changes, the Eagles dominated the third set, hitting a match high .310. After starting down 8-4 to the Raiders, kills from Mackenzie Doherty, Cole Jordee, and Lizzie Lightner got things back in swing. The Eagles also recorded an impressive six aces in the third set.

The explosive energy from the third set translated into the fourth for the Eagles, as they came away with a 25-21 win. The final win of the night came behind five kills from Doherty, and aces from Seghan Northey and Nichole Schaeve. Pfeifer finished out the final two point for the Eagles with decisive kills.

Overall, Pfeifer came away with a team high 13 kills, Doherty and Van Engen were close behind with 11 kills each. Alex Zapuchlak recorded 25 assists and Sarah Uczen finished with 25 digs.

The Eagles will head on the road to River Forest Ill.  to take on Concordia University Chicago on Saturday, October 6 at 12:00 p.m.
