PLYMOUTH, Wis. – After opening the conference season with two ties and two tough losses to some of the NACC's best, the Edgewood College men's soccer team shutout Lakeland University for their first conference win. The Eagles dominated the game from the beginning and rolled to a 4-0 victory over the Muskies at Taylor Field.
Edgewood College (6-4-2, 1-2-2 NACC) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in the fourth minute. Garrett Lee found Nicholas Bilodeau down the left side of the field, who slid the ball across the box to Surtees who pounded the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 Eagles lead. In the 39th minute, Zander Hartberg struck his fourth goal of the season for the Eagles. Lee made a run towards the goal and made a last second pass to find Hartberg who expertly snuck the ball through a sea of defenders to score the second goal for the Eagles.
In the second half, Lee notched a goal of his own in the 68th minute. Surtees connected with Lee on a pass down the left side of the field, as Lee whizzed the ball past the Muskies goalkeeper while on the run. Just four minutes later Scott Biancofiori joined in on the fun. The sophomore juked out two defenders to slide the ball into the right side of the net, and capture the fourth goal for the Eagles.
Edgewood College outshot the Muskies 22-4 for the game. Lee now has nine goals on the season and Surtees owns a career-high six goals on the season.
Edgewood College will be back in action in River Forest, Ill. to take on Concordia University Chicago. The conference match will begin at 1:00 p.m.
