RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team broke open a tight game in the second half, behind veteran leadership. On a cloudy Sunday afternoon the Edgewood College men's soccer team notched a 2-1 win over Concordia Chicago. The Eagles two goals both came in the second half from seniors Garrett Lee and Nicholas Bilodeau.
Edgewood College (7-4-2, 2-2-2 NACC) was unable to find the back of the net in the first half of competition. Despite outshooting Concordia Chicago (3-6, 2-4 NACC) 9-1 in the first half, the score would remain tied 0-0 at halftime.
The Eagles struck first, as Nicholas Bilodeau found the back of the net just eight minutes into the second half. The senior took advantage of perfect positioning in front of the Cougars goal, netting his second goal of the season off a pass from Evan Oppermann. The Eagles added to their lead in the 71st minute, as Garrett Lee scored his 10th goal of the season. Tyler Nelson intercepted a pass from Concordia Chicago, which opened up an opportunity for Lee. The senior made a run down the middle of the field and beat out a Cougar defender to chip the ball over the head of the goalkeeper, netting the Eagles second goal of the contest.
Concordia Chicago answered back in the final minute of the contest. Grant Manor would score the only goal for the Cougars off a free kick in the box. In the contest, Edgewood College outshot Concordia Chicago 26-9. Carson Hughes of Edgewood College made five saves, while Concordia Chicago split goalkeeping duties between Zachary Adamec and Jose Retana who each came away with five saves. Lee mad an impressive seven shots, and Scott Biancofiori was right behind him with four shots of his own.
Edgewood College will be back in action on Wednesday, October 10 when they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran College. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
