FOND DU LAC, Wis. – About the time they got to Fond du Lac Wednesday night for a NACC match at Marian, the Edgewood College Men's Soccer found out it had clinched a NACC Tournament berth. The Eagles still wanted to head into the tournament on a winning note and used a three-goal first half to down the Sabres, 3-2.
Edgewood College clinched the NACC Tournament berth when Dominican University defeated Illinois Tech, 3-0, in a match this afternoon. The Eagles entered Wednesday two points ahead of Illinois Tech, needing a tie or a Scarlet Hawks loss. Now, Edgewood College will enter the NACC Tournament with as the No. 6 seed and play at No. 3 Dominican Sunday.
Three seniors –
Nicholas Bilodeau,
Ryan Henry, and
Mamadou Jawo provided the scoring for the Eagles in the opening half. Bilodeau got Edgewood College on the board early, striking 6:25 into play.
Henry tallied his first goal of the season with nine minutes left in the first half, finishing a header of a corner kick from
Aldon Lumani. Jawo completed the first-half surge for the Eagles with his second goal in as many matches. Jawo was able to head in a rebound goal with just over five minutes left in the half.
Marian University would make things interesting with a pair of second-half goals, the second cutting the Edgewood College lead to 3-2 with 7:37 left on the clock. The Eagles held on though, finishing the NACC regular season with a 5-4-2 league record.
The Eagles ended the night with a 23-11 advantage in shots, including a 13-2 margin in the opening half. Bilodeau,
Sean Surtees, and
Jorge Castellanos each fired a match-best four shots for Edgewood College.
Carson Hughes started the match and played the first half, registering two saves for the win.
Brandyn Storhoff ended the match for Edgewood College, stopping one shot over the final 45 minutes.
The NACC Tournament match between the Eagles and Dominican is set for 11 a.m. Sunday at West Campus Field in River Forest, Illinois.
