Stars end Eagles season in First Round of NACC Tournament

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Two first-half goals from Dominican University's Isaac Perez proved to be the difference as the Edgewood College Men's Soccer season came to an end in the NACC Tournament opening round Sunday afternoon. The Eagles received a late score from Tyler Nelson, but couldn't find the equalizer, falling by a 2-1 count.

The loss ends the Eagles season with a 10-7-2 record. Edgewood College was making its first NACC Tournament appearance since the 2014 season, that year also ending in the opening round of the league tournament.

The contest was similar to the regular season matchup between the two teams, which also resulted in a 2-1 Stars win. The major difference between the two was the Eagles struck first in the October 13 loss, before Dominican received two first-half goals from one player to win 2-1. On Sunday, Dominican got the two first-half goals from Perez before Edgewood College could get on the board.

Perez struck on a penalty kick in the 26th minute and then made the score 2-0 just 2:23 later off an assist from Nicolo Vitale. The Eagles were held off the board until the 86th minute when Nelson completed his freshmen season with his third goal of the year. Kevin Garcia set Nelson up with a long service pass, and Nelson was there for the header, cutting the Stars lead to 2-1.

Edgewood College was outshot by a 15-8 margin on Sunday as the Eagles registered just two shots on goal. Dominican finished the match with six on goal as the Eagles rookie goaltender Carson Hughes tallied four saves in his first postseason start.

Victor Lombardino finished with a team-best three shots for the Eagles as five other players tallied one shot. Perez led all players in the match with four shots.

The setback ends the career of four Edgewood College seniors – Nicholas Bilodeau, Ryan Henry, Garrett Lee, and Mamadou Jawo. The four players helped the Eagles to 33 wins over the past four years, including 10 in each of the past two seasons.
