MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College men's soccer team wasn't about to let their four seniors lose their final game at Breese Stevens Field. Victor Lombardino scored twice, while Tyler Nelson and Mamadou Jawo each added goals of their own in a 4-2 victory over Illinois Tech on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles also kept their NACC Tournament hopes alive with the victory.
Lombardino to just nine minutes to score his fourth goal of the season. The Eagles struck first when Sean Surtees found Nicholas Bilodeau on the left post, who served up a perfect pass to Lombardino who whizzed the ball past the Scarlet Hawks goalkeeper. Less than nine minutes later, Lombardino found himself all alone with Illinois Tech (9-8, 4-6 NACC) goalkeeper Alex Kern. Lombardino found the back right corner of the net to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Edgewood College (9-6-2, 4-4-2 NACC) tacked on one more goal before the first half ended. Tyler Nelson scored his second goal of the season on a ball that rebounded off a Scarlet Hawks defender. The freshman was able to expertly control the ball and score from five yards out. The Eagles went into halftime with a 3-0 lead, outshooting Illinois Tech 11-2 in the first half.
In the second half Illinois Tech made things interesting, scoring twice in a 10-minute span. Manuel Lopez put the Scarlet Hawks on the board, scoring in the 78th minute, and Oluwaseun Ogunsanaya scored in the 88th minute.
In the final seconds on the contest Mamadou Jawo netted his fourth goal of the season. Jawo solidified the victory for himself and his fellow seniors Nicholas Bilodeau, Garrett Lee, and Ryan Henry.
Carson Hughes and Dan Dombrowski combined for four total saves for the Eagles. Anastasios Manolis and Alex Kern combined for five saves for the Scarlet Hawks.
The Eagles head to Fond Du Lac, Wis. on Wednesday, October 24 for their final NACC regular season matchup against Marian University. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
