WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Edgewood College Volleyball team challenged itself with two quality non-conference opponents Saturday in neutral-site matches at UW-Whitewater. The Eagles ultimately ended up falling in both bouts, first a 3-1 decision against Bethel before being swept, 3-0, by UW-Stout.

The day started against the Royals where the second set stood out for the Eagles. Edgewood College won the second set, 26-24, but fell in the other three (25-14, 25-13, 25-14) to open its day with a 3-1 setback. The Eagles posted a .289 attack percentage in the thrilling second set, but failed to hit .100 in any of the other three.

Sarah Pfeifer led Edgewood College in both matches in terms of kills, including posting 11 against Bethel. Brittany Sager dished out 17 assists with Alex Zapuchlak adding 13 helpers. The Eagles also had a pair of double-digit dig performances in Sarah Uczen (15) and Amanda Meister (11). Meister also served up three aces.

In the second match, UW-Stout controlled play in the 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-17) win. Pfeifer tallied nine kills to pace the Eagles offense which received a 10-assist performance from Ella Carpenter.

The second set was again the best one statistically for the Eagles as they hit .105. UW-Stout proved to be strong defensively with nine blocks in the win.

Edgewood College will host NACC-leading Aurora Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
