MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College men's basketball team was hitting on all cylinders on Tuesday night in a 76-54 victory over Dominican University. The Eagles opened up a 28-point first half lead on their way to their fifth consecutive NACC victory. Until tonight, Edgewood College hadn't won five straight NACC contests in 10 years, going all the way back to the 2007-08 season.
Edgewood College (6-8, 6-3 NACC) was nearly unstoppable in the first half. The Eagles made their first four shots from the field and bolted out to a 15-2 lead. Travis Kell scored six points on that run while Ben Seefeld contributed the last two buckets. The Eagles lead ballooned to 28-5 as Edgewood College picked apart every defense Dominican University (4-9, 2-7 NACC) could throw at them.
By halftime, the Eagles had opened up a commanding 44-16 lead, while shooting 63.3 percent from the field. Kell had singlehandedly outscored the Stars posting 17 points in the first half on 7-for-9 shooting. Arik Anderson had seven points, while Jake Negus chipped in a pair of three-pointers in the monster first half.
Dominican University scored the first six points of the second half and cut the Eagles lead to 50-35 on back-to-back three-pointers by Sean Ek. However, Negus turned the tide back with a three-point play. The Eagles effectively sealed the game by the six-minute mark with a five-point possession thanks to baskets by Emil Radisevic and Kell and a free throw from Jacob Miller that made the score 66-42.
Edgewood College had three players in double figures, led by Kell's 25-points, 12-rebound performance. Radisevic finished with 12 points, while Jake Negus scored 11 points. Negus and Sy Staver each doled out six assists as the Eagles had 19 assists on 31 field goals. Staver and Seefeld each had eight points. Edgewood College shot 53.4 percent from the field, marking the third time in the last four games at the Edgedome the Eagles have topped 50 percent.
With the victory, Edgewood College maintained their spot in a three-way tie for third place in NACC standings, alongside Aurora and Marian. The Eagles still have two games remaining this week, with a home contest against Concordia Wisconsin on Thursday and a key road trip to Aurora on Saturday.
