ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's tennis team dropped a pair of difficult matches in the opener to their 2017-18 campaign. The Eagles were shutout by Grinnell College 9-0 in the day's opening match, before falling to host Augustana College (Ill.) 8-1 in the second match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Alyssa Carew earned the Eagles only victory on the day. Carew defeated Ausgustana College's Faith Johnson 6-4, 7-6 at No. 3 singles to pick up the Eagles' first point of the season.
- Marissa Wilson pushed the Vikings' Morgan Bullen to a match tiebreaker at No. 4 singles before falling 0-6, 7-6, 10-5.
- In the first match, Edgewood College fell behind 3-0 after doubles play to Grinnell despite a strong performance from Jaclyn Swift and Haley Brooks at the No. 3 position. Swift and Brooks lost 8-4 to the Pioneers' Sydney Banach and Lily Hamilton.
- All six Eagles singles players lost in straight sets, with Wilson providing the closest match, falling 6-2, 7-5 to Anushka Joshi at No. 4 singles.
