GALESBURG, Ill. – Whatever the Edgewood College men's golf team did during the winter paid off in their first meet of the spring season. The Eagles shot two of their three lowest rounds of the season in placing third at the 19-team Knox Prairie Fire Classic at Soangetaha Country Club.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Zach Hentrich proved to be his usual consistent self, in starting the spring season. Hentrich led the Eagles with a 76 and a second-day 74 to finish in a tie for sixth overall with a score of 150.
- Dawson Hinz and Jensen Peck had similar tournaments. Peck shot the Eagles lowest Friday score with a 74, while Hinz fired a 75-78 for a two-day total of 153 and a top 15 finish. Peck was one shot higher at 154.
- Nathan Gilbert went from the team's highest score on Friday to their second lowest score on Saturday with a 77. Gilbert wrapped his weekend with a score of 157.
- Alex Wedige broke 80 both days, shooting matching scores of 79 to finish at 158.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College was the highest finishing NCAA Division III team in the field. The team champion, Illinois Central College is a NJCAA member and the runner-up, St. Francis belongs to the NAIA.
- Only Edgewood College and Illinois Central had all five golfers breaking 160 for the 36-hole total.

FOR THE OPPONENTS
- Illinois Central College won the event by 11 strokes with a blistering 299-296-595. St. Francis placed second with 606, just six shots better than the Eagles.
- Huston Gass of St. Francis was the individual medalist with matching 71s on each day for a 2-under par 142.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will play with some of the region's best teams next weekend at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill. Play begins on Friday and concludes Saturday.
