Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Eagle rally comes up short against Regents in overtime

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Despite trailing for the entire game, the Edgewood College men's basketball team rallied with an 8-0 run over the last four minutes to force overtime, but ultimately fell 72-70 at Rockford on Tuesday night.

Emil Radisevic posted the Eagles (1-4, 1-1 NACC) first double-double of the season with 16 points and a team-high 11 rebounds and hit the game-tying free throw with 20 seconds to go in regulation. The Eagles fended off a Regent layup and 3-pointer to send it into overtime.

Sy Staver's 3-pointer gave the Eagles their first lead of the game, 61-60, just 30 seconds into overtime. The Regents (4-2, 2-0 NACC) Trae Blumhorst, who finished with 15 points and was one of four Regents in double figures, scored four straight points as part of a 5-0 run to retake the lead 66-61 with two minutes left. Timely free throws helped the Regents maintain their five-point advantage as they went up 72-67 with eight seconds remaining.

The Eagles pushed the ball up the court and Jake Negus nailed a deep three that took a high shooter's bounce off the front of the rim before falling in to cut the Regent lead to 72-70 with four seconds to go. Rockford managed to dribble out the clock for their second straight conference win.

Negus finished with a season-high 14 points and five rebounds while finishing 5 of 11 from the floor. Despite being hampered by foul trouble and eventually fouling out, Travis Kell added 11 points and seven boards in 18 minutes of work.

Both teams shot under 34 percent with the Eagles also holding the Regents to only two 3-point makes. It was their dominance inside that led Rockford to the win after outrebounding the Eagles, 56-46, and outscoring them 38-26 in the paint.

The Regents' Taylor Krocker added game-highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds and was one of three Regent players with a double-double.

Next up the Eagles face Concordia Wisconsin on the road this Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
