Regents rocked by Eagles in conference finale

ROCKFORD, Ill. – For the eighth straight season, the Edgewood College volleyball team finished as a Top-3 team in the NACC after making quick work out of Rockford University, 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-23), on Tuesday night in both teams' conference finale.

With the win, the Eagles (15-14, 8-3 NACC) claim the No. 3 seed in the upcoming NACC tournament and will face off against No. 6 seed Wisconsin Lutheran at home on Tuesday, Oct. 31. The Eagles swept the Warriors on the road in their NACC opener back on September 13.

Defense shined in holding the winless Regents (2-25, 0-11 NACC) to a .045 hitting percentage in the Eagles second-straight three-set victory. It was the third-lowest mark by any Eagle opponent this year and complemented an offense that generated 13 aces for the third-straight match. Despite hitting just .147 as a team, their serving prowess helped finish off a Rockford squad that put up a fight in the third set.

The Eagles held the Regents to 10 kills against nine errors to capture the quick 2-0 advantage, but had to battle in a third set that saw 11 ties and six lead changes. All tied up at 18, the Eagles and Regents traded a trio of runs to conclude the match. After utilizing a quartet of kills by Tori Wiskow, Grace Zimmer, Mackenzie Hannan, and Cole Jordee, the Eagles went up 22-18 and a seemingly comfortable lead. The Regents responded with five straight points of their own until the Eagles ended the match with a three-point run capped by a Jordee and Hannan block.

Renee Meister led the team with seven kills and a .462 hitting percentage, Haley Schwenn racked up 14 assists, and Brittany Sager added a team-high four aces in the victory.

Next up is a matchup with both Lawrence and St. Norbert this Saturday in the NACC-MWC Crossover challenge. Both matches will be played at Lawrence and will be the final regular season bouts for the Eagles.
