Eagles edge Inferno for NACC opening win

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's tennis team got their NACC schedule started on the right foot with a narrow 5-4 victory over Alverno College at Quann Park. The Eagles second match of the day, against Loras College was suspended due to darkness and will likely not be completed.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College rallied in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to claim a 2-1 lead in the dual match. The key match was at No. 2 doubles where Edgewood College's Sydney Verbauwhede and Marissa Wilson went to tiebreaker with Alverno's Michelle Alexander and Laeren Yates before escaping with a 9-8 (7-1) victory.
- In singles play Alverno took the first two flights, although the Eagles' Alyssa Carew went a full three sets before losing to the Inferno's Brooke McBain 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
- Haley Brooks made quick work of Alverno's Libby Kent 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot.
- Next was Marissa Wilson who brought the Eagles within a point of victory by defeating Michelle Alexander 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
- Jaclyn Swift then put the finishing touches on the win, by defeating Lia Hutchins 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
- Before the darkness fell against Loras College, the Eagles' Alexa Lindsay recorded her first collegiate win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over the Duhawks' Rachael Molidor.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College won their NACC opener for the sixth consecutive season, dating back to 2010-11.
- The individual matches completed against Loras College count toward each players individual record, but no win or loss is credited to either team.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will have two more NACC matches next Saturday at home. The Eagles will face Dominican University at 10:00 a.m. and host Aurora University at 2:00 p.m.
