NORMAL, Ill. – The 21 teams competing at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational at Ironwood Golf Course stuck it out for one day but did not compete on Saturday due to cold and windy weather conditions expected throughout the second day of competition. The decision was made as cold temperatures and wind speeds surpassing 30 mph were anticipated throughout the day on Saturday. Edgewood College wound up with an 18th-place finish in the loaded field as the scores from Friday's full day of competiton still stand.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Three sophomore Edgewood College golfers turned in sub-80 rounds despite the frigid conditions Friday afternoon. Zach Hentrich led the way by firing a 78 while Nathan Gilbert and Alex Wedige each turned in a 79.
- Senior Kyle Bruce, a native of Monroe, Wis., carded an 82 to finish fourth for Edgewood College.
- Brooks Johnson, a freshman from Edgerton, Wis., rounded out the Edgewood College lineup with an 85.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The weather in Normal, Ill., was definitely not ideal golfing weather. The high reached 50 degrees on Friday but it remained in the mid-40s throughout most of the day with wind gusts exceeding 20 mph. The expected high temp for Saturday was 45 degrees with 30+ mph winds.
- Hentrich recorded his ninth-straight sub-80 round on Friday despite the chilly conditions. He has averaged a score of 73.7 over his last nine rounds.
- Gilbert's 79 was his eighth-straight round under 80. He has fired a 74 or better in three of the last four tournaments he has competed in for Edgewood College.
- Wedige's performance on Friday was his best since firing a 1-under 71 at the MSOE Invitational this past fall on Oct. 5.
- Three teams that competed Friday are either in the top-25 or receiving votes in the latest GCAA Coaches Poll (last updated on April 1, 2016). Host Illinois Wesleyan is currently checking in at No. 12 while Carthage and UW-Eau Claire are both receiving votes.
FOR THE FOES
- Millikin University's Blaine Buente was one of three golfers checking in under par on Friday. He fired a 70 (-2) to take medalist honors. St. John's (Minn.) Austin Kottke and Parkland's Tom Webster both shot a 71 (-1).

- Edgewood College heads to Milan, Ill., on Friday, April 8 for the two-day Augustana College Invitational. The tournament will be played at Pinnacle C.C.
