Strong 2nd round lifts Eagles to 13th-place finish

DECATUR, Ill. – Edgewood College posted its best team round since early fall on day two of the Millikin University Weist Foundation Classic to jump up two spots from its first day position. The Eagles shot a 316 on day one and a 298 on day two to take 13th place of 18.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kyle Bruce (3-over 75) and Nathan Gilbert (7-over 79) led Edgewood College on day one as the Eagles entered the second day of competition in 15th place.
- Bruce (76) and Gilbert (75) followed up with great performances on day two to finish tied for 27th and tied for 46th, respectively.
- Sophomore Zach Hentrich flew into the top half of the leaderboard after his second-round 72 (E) to tie with Gilbert at 46th overall. He shot an 82 on day one but his 72 on day two was his best round since matching that amount on both days of the MSOE Invitational on Oct. 4-5.
- Alex Wedige (80-75) improved his second round by five strokes from his first day total to finish just one stroke behind Gilbert and Hentrich. It was his best round since firing a 1-under 71 at on the second day of the MSOE Invitational on Oct. 5.
- Brooks Johnson tied for 79th in the 95-person field after firing a two-day 163 (+19) while Matt Tucker, competing as an individual, turned in his best two-day total in his collegiate career with a 20-over 164.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College's 10-over 298 on Saturday was tied for the 10th-best team round in school history relative to par.
- Bruce's 75 on day one was his lowest 18-hole score since his 75 on the first day of the 2015-16 NACC Championships on Oct. 10, 2015.

FOR THE FOES
- Spalding's Hunt Lenz defeated Parkland College's Dom Knight in a two-hole playoff to win individual medalist honors. The two each shot a 1-under 143 for the tournament.

UP NEXT
- This weekend's tournament served as the final tune-up before Rounds 3 & 4 of the NACC Championships. The Eagles, who own a two-stroke lead over Wisconsin Lutheran after the first two rounds from mid-October, will look to hold that lead starting Sunday, April 24 at Stonebridge Country Club in Aurora, Ill. The fourth round will take place that following Monday, April 25.
