Benedictine shoots down Eagles

LISLE, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team is finding road games in the NACC to be full of challenges. On Saturday at the Rice Center, Benedictine University shot 50 percent for the game in a 96-43 victory over the Eagles. The loss left the Eagles still searching for their first win of the season.

Benedictine University (8-1, 4-0 NACC) burst from the game by hitting nine of their first 12 shots, including 4-for-4 at the three-point line to take a 28-8 lead after the first period.

Edgewood College (0-7, 0-4 NACC) began the second period by going on a 7-0 run. Marissa Hoyer scored a basket on the Eagles second possession of the quarter, followed by a three-pointer and a fast break layup from Cali Twet. Taylor Hilliard and Aleigha Sigafus both scored baskets in the quarter as the Eagles trailed 51-20 at halftime. Benedictine expanded their lead in the third period, before Edgewood College played them nearly straight up in the final quarter, behind eight points from Hoyer.

Twet and Hoyer led the Eagles with 17 points apiece. For Hoyer, her total marked a new career-high topping her 13-point game earlier this season against Concordia University Chicago. Hoyer also had a team-high six rebounds while Morgan Michaels led the Eagles with three assists. Edgewood College committed a season-low 14 turnovers for the game.

Benedictine University had five players in double figures led by Venita Parsons who scored 20 points by going a perfect 5-for-5 from the three-point line. Benedictine outrebounded Edgewood College 59-31 for the game.

Edgewood College will take a week off from games for fall semester finals, before hosting a Saturday contest with Concordia University Wisconsin at the Edgedome. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
