Eagles extend winning streak to four straight

MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's volleyball team took full advantage of their three home matches this week, completing their homestand with a 3-0 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles extended their season-long winning streak to four straight matches with a 25-14, 25-23, 25-18 victory at the Edgedome.

Edgewood College (12-10, 4-1 NACC) dominated the opening set defensively, holding the Warriors to a -.148 attack percentage. Emily Chaussee set the tone for a big game with three kills on five attempts in the opening set. Renee Meister and Elizabeth Evans had two kills apiece.

Wisconsin Lutheran College (9-13, 1-5 NACC) regrouped for a much more competitive second set. The Eagles had opened up a 20-14 lead after kills by Chaussee and Savannah Koester. Edgewood College still led 21-15 when the Warriors went on a 5-1 run to force an Eagles timeout. After a WLC service error, Meister and Chaussee teamed up for an assisted block to bring the Eagles to set point. Wisconsin Lutheran held off for two more points with a kill by Britley Grulke and a block by Nicole Klipstein and Grulke, but Haley Schwenn delivered an assist to Chaussee to clinch the set. Chaussee and Koester each had five kills in the set.

The Eagles defense rose up again in the third set, scoring five blocks and hitting a match-high .400. Aga Sron entered the match and contributed on each of the Eagles final three points. Sron teamed with Megan Schwartz for a block, scored a kill to bring Edgewood College to set point, and then ended the match on an assisted block with Koester.

Edgewood College was led by Chaussee with 13 kills against just two errors for a .478 attack percentage. Evans posted 10 kills, while Koester had eight. Meister had one solo block and four assisted blocks for a total of five on the day. Grace Zimmer led the Eagles with nine digs, while Schwenn posted a team-high assists. Edgewood College hit .272 for the match, which marked their second highest percentage of the season.

Wisconsin Lutheran was led by Grulke with nine kills and 10 digs. The Warriors topped the Eagles with five service aces compared to Edgewood College's four.

Edgewood College will hit the road on Tuesday night to try and extend their winning streak at Lakeland University. The Eagles and Muskies get underway at 7:00 p.m. from Woltzen Gymnasium.
