CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Edgewood College volleyball team won both of their matches on Saturday at the MIT Invitational to complete a 3-1 trip and finish fourth of 12 teams. Edgewood College defeated Brandeis University 3-1 in the day's first match and Wellesley College 3-1 in the second match. Senior libero Rachel Tesch earned All-Tournament recognition for her play.
Edgewood College (4-4) rolled past the Judges in the first two sets 25-13 and 25-11. Brandeis University bounced back to take a 25-16 win in the third set, before the Eagles closed out the match with 25-20 fourth set victory. Savannah Koester led Edgewood College with eight kills, while Jordan Winkler added seven. Jenna Dammen had four kills in eight attacks without an error for a .500 attack percentage and recorded a team-high three solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Tesch led the Eagles with 20 kills, while Haley Schwenn had 13 assists.
In the second match, the Eagles had to rally after dropping the first set to Wellesley College 25-21. Edgewood College responded by taking the next three sets 25-19, 25-19 and 25-15 to even their season record. Winkler hammered out 13 kills and posted 19 digs for a double-double. Renee Meister hit .636 with seven kills in 11 attempts. Tesch collected 23 digs and Alex Zapuchlak had a team-high 21 assists and three service aces. Edgewood College hit .205 as a team for the match.
After they return home, Edgewood College will face Marian University in their NACC opener on Tuesday in Fond du Lac.
