ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's tennis team has a tradition of challenging themselves with the region's top teams in non-conference play. Saturday was no exception. The Eagles fell to both Augustana College and Grinnell College as the team prepares to defend their seven consecutive NACC regular season titles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opening match, the host Vikings blanked the Eagles, dominating singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets.
- Edgewood College's Madeline George and Sabrina Fuller nearly pulled off a win at No. 3 doubles. They pushed Augustana's Lauren Kaczmarek and Amy Even to a tiebreaker before falling 9-8 (7-5).
- Edgewood College's Jaclyn Swift earned the Eagles' only point of the day in the second match, defeating Grinnell's Amelia Cogan 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- The Eagles' defeat to Augustana matched last spring's loss to the Vikings. Edgewood College lost 9-0 in Rock Island on April 12.
- The match with Grinnell marked the first time the Eagles and Pioneers have met since the opening day of the 2010-11, which Grinnell won 9-0 in Dubuque, Iowa.

FOR THE FOES
- Mollie Magee and Madeline Lombardi of Augustana College were especially impressive, winning their singles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
- For Grinnell College, the doubles pair of Megan Jans and Anushka Joshi scored a perfect 8-0 victory.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will travel to Wheaton, Ill. next Friday and Saturday for a pair of matches against Wheaton College and Carroll University. On Sunday, the Eagles return home to begin NACC play with matches against MSOE at 10:00 a.m. and Mount Mary University at 4:00 p.m. at Quann Park.
