MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Edgewood College baseball team stepped up the competition level on Tuesday night, facing NCAA Division I member UW-Milwaukee in a non-conference game at Henry Aaron Field. The Panthers pounded out five home runs and 14 extra base hits in a 23-2 victory over the Eagles.
UW-Milwaukee (25-15) was on the board early with a pair of home runs in the first inning for a 3-0 lead. The Panthers piled on 10 runs in the second to take command. Edgewood College broke through in the ninth inning, when Brad Clark, Alex Fowler and Callen Gavic drew consecutive walks. Peter Hefty then plated the Eagles first run with a sacrifice fly to right field. After a wild pitch Nick Cheaney drove home Fowler with an RBI groundout.
Pat Manning had two hits in the game, extending his career-long streak of reaching base to 26 consecutive games. Gavic and Nick Lehner picked up the other two hits for Edgewood College. Erick Wendt took the loss for the Eagles.
Edgewood College has five games this weekend to close the regular season. The Eagles will host Aurora University on Saturday afternoon for LSM Chiropractic Senior Day at Stampfl Field in the team's final NACC doubleheader. On Sunday, the Eagles will play a pair on the road against UW-La Crosse. The Eagles will close the regular season on Monday evening with a special Veterans Appreciation Night contest against the University of Chicago.
