Patrick Lagman and Austin Papenthien

Box Score

CLINTON, Iowa – The Edgewood College men's tennis team was hoping to return from their opening weekend with a winning record, but Ashford University wasn't interested. The Saints yielded one win to the Eagles in doubles, but sent Edgewood College back to Madison with an 8-1 defeat.

Edgewood College's highlight came at No. 1 doubles where Austin Papenthien and Patrick Lagman improved to 3-0 on the weekend with an 8-5 victory over Ashford's Brayton Rasche and Erich Taach. Unfortunately, the Eagles weren't able to make any ground in singles play, losing each match in straight sets. Lagman lost to Bart Van Rooijen at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3 and Evan Stone dropped a 6-4, 6-2 match to Raasche to represent the Eagles' closest singles competition of the day.

Edgewood College will host their home opener on Saturday, February 14 at Hitters Sportsplex in Middleton. The Eagles will face UW-La Crosse at 2:00 p.m. and then wrap the night against Carthage College in an 8:00 p.m. match.
