HARTFORD, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's golf team turned in an outstanding second round score to leap the host Warriors and place third at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invitational. The Eagles posted a 297 on Monday and shot 607 for the weekend. Kyle Bruce shot Monday's best round with a 2-under par 70 to finish second individually.
Bruce had the Eagles low score each day, but erased a pedestrian 76 on Sunday with a sterling 70 on Monday morning at Washington County Golf Course, carding five birdies and 10 pars. Bruce just missed catching Jarrett Simonson of Carthage College who shot an amazing 67 on Sunday, but almost came back to the field with a 76 on Monday, but still claimed a three-shot victory.
Every other Eagle also improved their score on Monday, with Michael Mathwick shooting a 74 and finishing with a two-day total of 151. Mathwick's score was good enough for a ninth place finish. Freshman Zach Hentrich was a consistent shooter, scoring 77-76-153 in the event.
The Eagles' team was rounded out by Patrick Bohrer, who picked up three shots from Sunday's round to shoot a 77 on Monday. Nathan Gilbert scored 165 in the 36-hole event.
Edgewood College will head north next Sunday for the UW-Eau Claire Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational. The Eagles will compete at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club in Altoona.
