VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College baseball team finally got a beautiful day for a game, but a ninth inning home run by UW-Platteville's Tyler Trautsch spoiled the Eagles' Senior Day and regular season finale. Trautsch's home run gave the Pioneers a 5-4 victory in the Eagles' final preparation before the NACC Tournament which begins on Thursday.

Edgewood College (16-23) jumped ahead with three runs on four consecutive hits to open the bottom of the second inning. Alex Jaskulski and Ryan O'Dell began the inning with a single and a double, respectively. Jaskulski then scored on a Sean Thompson RBI single. Brad Clark drove in the next Eagle run with a single down the left field line. Andrew Lauritzen drove in Thompson with an infield single.

UW-Platteville (11-27) responded with three runs in the third inning. Zach Demmon delivered the big blow for the Pioneers with a two-run double. After UW-Platteville took the lead in the top of the fourth 4-3, Edgewood College opened their half of the sixth with a pair of singles and a walk to load the bases. However, the Eagles only managed one run on a bases loaded walk to Will Schlosser.

Tautsch's home run to right put the Pioneers ahead 5-4 and the Eagles had a chance to respond, but an unusual call short-circuited any Edgewood College rally. After Lauritzen's one-out double seemed to give the Eagles a runner in scoring position, the home plate umpire declared Laurtizen out for throwing his bat. UW-Platteville pitcher Austin Daniels then struck out the final Eagle batter to end the game.

Edgewood College received two hits each from Jaskulski, Clark and Zack Creekmore. Jaskulski also scored two runs on the day. The Eagles used eight different pitchers in the game with Andy Swanson taking the loss.

The Eagles will open up the NACC Tournament on Thursday afternoon against Concordia University Wisconsin at Kapco Park in Mequon. The NACC Tournament is a six-team double elimination event with the winner receiving the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
