MADISON, Wis. – Needing one win against Aurora University to qualify for the NACC Tournament, the Edgewood College baseball team could have been wound too tightly to perform. However, the Eagles took care of business in game one with an 8-2 victory and then completed the sweep with a 5-3 win in their final conference doubleheader. Edgewood College will be the fourth seed for the NACC Tournament which begins on Thursday in Mequon.

In game one, Edgewood College (16-22, 11-9 NACC) grabbed the lead with two runs in the fifth inning on a Sean Thompson RBI groundout, followed by Brad Clark's first career home run. The Eagles doubled their lead to 4-0 in the top of the sixth when Zack Creekmore drove in Andrew Lauritzen and Mitch Marty with a two-run single.

Meanwhile, Eagle starting pitcher Taylor Hillmann was keeping Aurora University (10-28, 6-14 NACC) at arm's length. Hillmann allowed just three hits and two earned runs through 6.1 innings for his career-high fifth win of the year. Bryce Ziegler came in to finish off the seventh and Andy Swanson pitched the final two innings for his first career save.

The Eagles blew the game open in the ninth inning with four unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning. Marty was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in the first run. Lauritzen and Creekmore added RBI singles and Danny Appino had a sacrifice fly.

Ryan O'Dell led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 day and two runs scored. Creekmore had two hits and a team-high three runs batted in. Clark had a single to go with his home run.

Edgewood College was forced to come from behind twice in game two, trailing 1-0 and 2-1. The Eagles took the lead for good in the top of sixth inning when Sean Thompson delivered a two-out two-run single that scored O'Dell and Appino for a 4-2 Eagles lead. Mitch Marty delivered an RBI single of his own in the seventh, which proved to be an important insurance run as the Spartans plated another run in the bottom of the seventh.

Starting pitcher Trevor Koehn made it all the way to the ninth inning but gave way to Dan Hoppel after a leadoff single. Koehn scattered nine hits and struck out three to earn his third win of the season. Hoppel set down his three batters in order for his second save of the season.

Marty went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in to lead the Eagles' offense. Thompson had the Eagles other to RBI's with his go-ahead single. Edgewood College had just six hits in the game, but made the most of every opportunity.

The Eagles will be the fourth seed for their first NACC Baseball Tournament since 2012. Edgewood College will play third seed and tournament host Concordia University Wisconsin in their opening game on Thursday, May 8 at Kapco Park in Mequon. The NACC Baseball Tournament is a six-team double elimination tournament with the winner claiming an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Edgewood College will play their final regular season home game on Sunday at Stampfl Field. The Eagles will host UW-Platteville at 3:00 as part of Salute To Veterans Day and LSM Chiropractice Senior Day.
