MIDDLETON, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's golf team already punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships, but with that event two weeks away, the Eagles still had one more chance to sharpen their skills. Edgewood College placed second at their own Spring Quadrangular behind Kenny Rucker, who earned medalist honors.
Nine Eagles' participated in the home event at Bishops Bay Country Club and the cold and rainy conditions was not allowing for low cards to come in. Rucker, however, found a way to beat the weather and was the last off the course with a round of 75, just three over par. Rucker tied with UW-Eau Claire's Sean Murphy but took home medalist honors after comparing back-nine scores. Kyle Bruce also cracked the top ten with an 18-hole score of 80.
Patrick Bohrer, Mitchell Feller, and Michael Mathwick all carded an 82 which tied them for 12th place in the 30 person field. Counting the four top scores, the Eagles finished with a 319. Feller was the highest finishing individual score for Edgewood College. Patrick Cahill rounded out the five in the mix for a team score with an 83.
Other individuals for the Eagles included Shane Leadholm (87), Tyler Cobb (91), and Austin Foley (97). UW-Eau Claire took the title with a team score of 313, just six shots ahead of Edgewood College.
The NCAA Division III Championships is now just over a week away. The event at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina will begin on Tuesday, May 13.
