LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Edgewood College baseball team received an outstanding pitching performance to take the first game of their doubleheader over Rockford, but the Regents responded in game two for the split. Trevor Koehn and Andrew Lauritzen combined on a two-hit shutout in a 6-0 win, before the Eagles fell 5-2 in the nightcap.

Koehn was so sharp in the opening game, that he went one out deep into the seventh inning before a single by Rockford's Chris Holke broke up a potential no-hitter. In seven innings pitched, Koehn allowed just two hits and four walks, while striking out six batters.

Edgewood College (6-15, 2-2 NACC) got all the runs they would need in the fifth inning. Lauritzen cleared the bases with a three-run double with two outs, and then scored when Rockford committed an error on Alex Jaskulski's ground ball. The Eagles picked up a run in the eighth when Sean Thompson scored on a balk, and another in the ninth when Jaskulski stole home plate.

Rockford University (10-10, 2-6 NACC) posted their biggest threat in the eighth inning, loading the bases against Koehn with no outs. Lauritzen came in to the mound from his shortstop position and coaxed a comebacker from Brian Wiest. Laurtizen went home and catcher Thompson turned a home-to-first double play to keep the Regents off the board. Lauritzen would close out the eighth and pitch the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

Lauritzen was 1-for-4 with his three runs batted in thanks to his bases loaded double. Marc Ostrowski went 2-for-5 at the plate, while Jaskulski had a hit and two stolen bases.

Edgewood College led on two separate occasions in game two, but couldn't hold on. Jaskulski singled home Zack Creekmore, who had reached base on an error, for an unearned run in the first inning. In the third inning, the Eagles took a 2-1 lead when Creekmore launched an RBI double to score Danny Appino.

However, the Regents tied the game in the bottom of the third inning off Eagle starter Ryan Busse, and then posted three runs in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. Kyle LaMore had a two-run double for the Regents for the biggest blow. The Eagles managed only two hits the rest of the way.

Creekmore went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Eagles in the second game. Appino also had a double. Busse went 3.2 innings, allowing five runs, before giving way to AJ Verhage who held the Regents scoreless the rest of the game.

Edgewood College will be home on Thursday for another NACC doubleheader. The Eagles will host MSOE at Stampfl Field at 1:00 p.m.
