RIPON, Wis. – By the time the Edgewood College bats woke up on Sunday, it was too late to salvage a split in their non-conference doubleheader against Ripon College. The Red Hawks took a pair of games off the Eagles at Francis Field with a 10-0 shutout in the opener and a 15-5 victory in the second game. The Eagles dropped three straight to end the weekend after defeating Marian University on Saturday.

Ripon College (5-9) got the jump on the Eagles early with two runs in the first inning and three more in the second, highlighted by a Michael Polcyn two-run home run. Ripon tacked three more runs on to Eagles starter Nate Averill in the fourth inning, including another two-run home run this time from Mitchell Busch. Edgewood College (5-14) never advanced a runner past second base, as Ripon turned a pair of double plays to kill any threat. Ryan O'Dell went 2-for-3, while Andrew Lauritzen and Alex Jaskulski had the Eagles only other hits. Averill took the loss for the Eagles allowing nine earned runs in 5.2 innings. Bryce Ziegler and Blake Bieri closed out the game.

In game two, the Red Hawks built a 9-0 lead before the Eagles answered with four runs in the sixth inning, which snapped a streak of 21 scoreless innings for Edgewood College. O'Dell singled home Zack Creekmore who had led off the inning with a double and eventually scored on Pete Hefty's RBI double. With two outs and runners at second and third, Danny Appino delivered a double to right field that scored both Hefty and Jacob Yellovich. Edgewood College tacked on another run in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Marc Ostrowski. Creekmore had three hits for the Eagles including his double. Appino had a team-high two runs batted in. Brad Clark started on the mound and went three innings before yielding to Dan Hoppel and Brock McGinn.

Edgewood College will return to NACC play on Thursday with a rescheduled doubleheader against MSOE. The Eagles and the Raiders will begin at 1:00 p.m. from Stampfl Field in Verona. Both games can be seen live on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
