Box Score 2 MEQUON, Wis. – The Edgewood College baseball team hoped to put some distance between themselves and the rest of the NACC Tournament contenders, by the shores of Lake Michigan on Saturday, but instead the Eagles found themselves pulled back into a mess of team's trying to claim berths. Edgewood College's offense deserted them in an 8-1 and a 9-1 loss to streaking Concordia University Wisconsin.
Edgewood College (13-21, 8-8 NACC) was bottled up by Falcons' pitcher Andrew Heideman in the first game. Heideman limited the Eagles to just two hits through the first seven innings of play. It wasn't until the eighth when the Eagles strung together back-to-back singles by Nick Lehner and Danny Appino, followed by an RBI double by Andrew Lauritzen that the Eagles were able to get on the scoreboard.
Meanwhile, Concordia Wisconsin (16-14, 8-8 NACC) posted five runs off Eagles' starter Trevor Koehn in the first two innings. Koehn settled in and allowed just one earned run the rest of the way and struck out three in his second complete game of the season. Laurtizen extended his hitting streak to 12 games and his reached base streak to 17 games with the double, but both were snapped in game two.
The nightcap seemed like a bad sequel of game one, as the Falcons plated five runs, four earned, in the third inning off Eagles' starter Ryan Busse to take a 5-0 lead. Edgewood College tallied a run in the fifth when Marc Ostrowski was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a Falcon error, but Concordia maintained control of the game with a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Dylan Gausman went seven innings and gave up only five hits to the Eagles for the win. Lehner was the only Eagle to reach base twice in the game, with a single and base on balls.
The two losses drop the Eagles into a four-way tie for third place with Concordia Wisconsin, Rockford (8-8 NACC) and Marian (7-7 NACC). Weather permitting, Edgewood College will attempt to move closer to securing a postseason berth on Sunday with a doubleheader against Lakeland College (10-23, 2-10 NACC). Sunday's games are also "Strike Out Cancer Day" to benefit the Breast Cancer Recovery foundation and their work providing healing environment's for women with breast cancer.
