RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College baseball team held four-run leads in each game of today's doubleheader, but it wasn't enough to hold off fifth-ranked Concordia University Chicago as the Cougars came from behind to win both games. The Cougars scored 11 runs after the fifth inning for a 13-7 win in game one, and then held off the Eagles' highest offensive output of the season for a 16-12 victory in the nightcap. Sophomore Andrew Lauritzen went 8-for-11 in the two games for the Eagles.

Edgewood College (8-17, 4-4 NACC) seemed to have the Cougars against the ropes in the opening game. Trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning, the Eagles received an RBI single from Alex Jaskulski, followed by back-to-back double from Ryan O'Dell and Marc Ostrowski. Ostrowski's knock plated two runs for a 4-2 Edgewood College lead. In the next inning, Jaskulski's single to center field sent Nate Averill home and when the Cougars outfielder mishandled the ball, Zack Creekmore scooted home for a 6-2 Eagle advantage.

However, five runs by the Cougars in the bottom of the sixth inning and five more in the bottom of the eighth put the game out of the Eagles' reach. Concordia Chicago (20-2, 8-0 NACC) hit seven doubles in the first game.

Lauritzen went 4-for-5 at the plate with a stolen base, while Jaskulski was 3-for-5 with two runs batted in. Ostrowski had two runs batted in as well. Trevor Koehn took the loss for the Eagles despite lasting into the eighth inning. Bryce Ziegler and Averill finished the game for Edgewood College.

Game two was a similar story as Edgewood College posted back-to-back four-run innings to take an 8-4 lead over the Cougars, but couldn't hold off Concordia Chicago's offensive attack. The Eagles put up four runs in the third, with Ostrowski's two-run single tying the game at 4-4. In the fourth, Jaskulksi delivered a two-run double to left field and Sean Thompson had an RBI single to put the Eagles ahead 8-4. But the Cougars posted three runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth, forcing the Eagles to play catch up once again. Thompson added a sacrifice fly in the seventh and a an RBI single in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to claim victory.

Lauritzen posted his second four-hit game of the day going 4-for-6. Likewise Jaskulski had his second three-hit game of the day and Thompson also had three hits to go with three runs batted in. Ostrowski and Averill each had two hits. AJ Verharge fell to 2-3 on the season, giving up seven earned runs in 4.1 innings.

Edgewood College hopes to be back at home Sunday despite an pessimistic weather forecast that calls for rain. If Mother Nature cooperates the Eagles and Dominican University will begin their doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. at Stampfl Field in Verona.
