ST. LOUIS, Mo. – There was no winter hangover for the Edgewood College men's golf team in their spring opener this weekend. At the Webster University Gorlok Spring Invitational, the Eagles shot a 300 in the first round and finished in fifth place with a 36-hole total of 618. Kenny Rucker shared medalist honors with Mike Maller of Central College (Iowa) with a five-over par score of 147.
Sunday's opening round was played at the Par 70 Forest Park Golf Course, while the second round moved over to Par 72 Sunset Golf Course. Rucker fired a one-under par 69 on the first day to tie the University of Dubuque's Eric Wolfe for the clubhouse lead. He followed that effort with a 78 on the longer Sunset course, which was good enough to share the tournament title.
Patrick Cahill found the Sunset course to his liking shooting a second round 75 to grab his fourth top 10 finish of the season with a score of 152. Kyle Bruce totaled 160 after a first round 78. Michael Mathwick and Patrick Bohrer shot 162 and 163, respectively.
Edgewood College will travel to Bloomington, Ill. next weekend for an invitational hosted by second-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University.
