Eagles blanked twice on Day 2 at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Edgewood College men's tennis team ran into a pair of quality opponents on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and the results showed it. The Eagles lost 9-0 to Baldwin Wallace University in an afternoon match, before dropping another 9-0 match to NCAA Division II program Tusculum College 9-0 in an evening match.

Against Baldwin Wallace (10-1), the Eagles nearly pulled off a victory at No. 1 doubles. Austin Papenthein and Patrick Lagman lost a narrow 8-6 decision to Peter Harris and Doug Ganim. Lagman pushed Harris into a first set tiebreak at No. 2 singles, but ultimately dropped the match 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

Edgewood College (1-11) didn't fare better against the Pioneers of Tusculum College (8-3). Brian Davenport and Alex Hadjiev put up the Eagles closest doubles match, falling 8-3 at the No. 2 position. Michael Wanta played hard at No. 5 singles, falling 6-2, 6-2 to John Taylor, while Lagman lost 6-4, 6-2 to Nicolas Planchard at the No. 2 spot.

The Eagles will play another double dip tomorrow with a morning match against Millsaps College, and an afternoon date with Missouri Valley College.
