Big runs push Eagles to sweep of Cougars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – If the Edgewood College volleyball team has found the winning touch, they're picking the right time of the season to do it. The Eagles rolled over Concordia University Chicago 25-20, 25-15, 25-15 for their sixth win in their last seven matches. The Eagles hit .326 in the match, their second highest total of the season.

Edgewood College (13-11, 4-2 NACC) trailed 7-5 in the first set when Haley Schwenn followed a Sarah Schuchhardt kill with seven straight service points for a 13-7 lead. The Eagles pushed their lead as high as 23-12, before a late Cougar rally narrowed the final score of the set at 25-20. Jordan Winkler had four kills in the first set while Schuchhardt and Renee Meister had three kills apiece.

Another big run in the second set, put Concordia University Chicago (5-17, 2-4 NACC) down 2-0 to the Eagles. Leading 16-13, the Eagles scored nine of the last 11 points of the set for a 25-15 win. Savannah Koester and Carley Reuter each had three kills. Edgewood College committed no attack errors in the second set.

The third set was nearly a carbon copy of the second, with the Eagles ending the set on a 9-1 run to win the match. Koester added four more kills to finish with a team-high eight kills, no attack errors and three service aces. Elizabeth Evans and Meister each had seven kills. Meister had no errors in 10 attempts to finish with an attack percentage of .700 as well as five blocks. Rachel Thomsen served up 20 assists for the Eagles, while Macalah Finstad and Rachel Tesch shared team-high honors with 15 digs apiece.

At 4-2, the Eagles currently sit in a tie for fourth place with MSOE in the NACC standings. Edgewood College returns to NACC action after the weekend with a trip to Sadoff Gymnasium in Fond du Lac and a match with Marian University.
