Box Score WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team traded goals with UW-Whitewater for the first half of Friday's game, but couldn't answer in the second half. The Warhawks scored twice in the second half to gain a 4-2 victory and deny the Eagles their first win of the 2013 season.
The fireworks started early when UW-Whitewater's Jenna Woodson got on the board in the 6th minute. However, the Eagles' Emily Skaer notched her second goal in as many games off an assist from Emily Berns in the 11th minute. Just over two minutes later, the UW-Whitewater (2-0-1) went back in front on Natalie Lechner's goal.
Edgewood College (0-2) got a huge lift just before the break. After a UW-Whitewater foul just outside the penalty area, the Eagles' Erin Peterson ripped a direct free kick past Warhawk goalkeeper Jordan Meyers for her first goal of the season and a 2-2 halftime tie.
The Eagles managed one shot in the first 12 minutes of the second half, but UW-Whitewater broke the tie. Brianna Reid scored her first goal of the season in the 58th minute to put the Warhawks ahead 3-2. Ten minutes later the Warhawks' Sarah Sedlar posted the final goal of the game.
Edgewood College goalkeeper Tori Fortney made four saves in the match for the Eagles. Edgewood College was outshot 19-6 for the game.
The Eagles will play their home opener this Sunday at Breese Stevens Field. Edgewood College will host St. Mary's University (Minn.) in a 4:00 p.m. game which will follow the Eagles' men's soccer home opener at 2:00 p.m.
