HARTFORD, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's golf team has been consistently improving every tournament this season. After a second place finish two weekends ago, the only way to improve was to take first, and that is what the Eagles did on Monday afternoon. Edgewood College took first place out of 18 teams at the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational, led by senior Michael Mathwick who claimed medalist honors.

Coming into the two day event, the Eagles were averaging a league-leading 18-hole score of 301.4, but shattered that on Sunday. Edgewood College tied a school record and held a comfortable seven shot lead after firing a first round one-under par 287. Mathwick led all golfers with his career-best round of 69, three-under par. The senior paired that with a second round 75 to finish at even par and win his first collegiate event.

Kenny Rucker joined Mathwick in the top ten as he fired back-to-back rounds of 74 to tie for third in the field of 96 golfers. After posting an even par 72 after round one, Patrick Cahill carded a 79 on Monday to finish in 14th place. Patrick Bohrer and Kyle Bruce tied with a nine-over par 153 while Tony Thaden competed as an individual and posted a two day total of 159. Both Bohrer and Rucker's rounds were season-lows.

Edgewood College edged out Spalding University by one stroke for first place, claiming their first tournament title since winning conference in 2011-12. The Eagles two day team total of 594 ranks second in Edgewood College history.

The Eagles will look to stay hot as they head to Lake Geneva for the MSOE Invitational next weekend. The two day event will take place at Grand Geneva Resort. The first two rounds of the conference championship is just two weeks away.
