KENOSHA, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's tennis team wrapped their regular season with a triangular at Carthage College on Saturday. The Eagles dropped their opening match to Augustana College (Ill.) 8-1, before falling to the host Red Men 9-0. Saturday's matches were the Eagles' final tune up before the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament begins on Saturday.
In the opening match, the Eagles played close at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, losing 8-5 in both matches. Patrick Lagman score the Eagles only victory of the day, claiming a 6-2, 6-2 win over Augustana College's Harald Olsson at No. 1 singles. Edgewood College's Eric Gavinski nearly took a set from Andy Wall at No. 2 singles, losing in a second set tiebreaker 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
The Eagles found the going tougher in the second match of the day against Carthage College. Ben Janusek and Michael Janusek dropped an 8-3 match at No.3 doubles, as did Tim Morgan and Michael Wanta at the No. 2 position. In singles play, Lagman had the closest match, but fell 6-2, 6-3 to Carthage's Jeff Lotz, Jr. at No. 1 singles.
Edgewood College earned the fifth seed for the NAC Tournament and will open on the road. The Eagles will travel to No. 4 seed Wisconsin Lutheran College on Tuesday, April 30. The winner will advance to the NAC Tournament semifinals next Saturday at the Sports Core in Kohler, Wis.
