Eagles nipped by Pioneers

NEW BERLIN, Wis. – For the second straight match, Edgewood College went down to the wire with a Midwest Conference member. Unlike their 5-4 victory over St. Norbert College, this time Carroll University got the better of the Eagles pulling out a 5-4 victory over Edgewood College. The loss dropped Edgewood College to 16-8 on the season with three non-conferences matches left before the NAC Tournament begins.

Edgewood College opened up a 2-1 lead after doubles play, thanks to victories from Morgan Wilson and Brooke McBain at the No. 2 position and Kristen Boone and Ashley Paulson at No. 3 doubles. At No. 4 singles Ellie Wilkie scored another point for the Eagles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Carroll's Megan Rosenberg.

However, the Pioneers won in straight sets at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 singles to grab a 4-3 lead. The match hinged on No. 2 and No. 6 singles which both went to 10-point match tiebreakers. The Eagles' Boone pulled out a 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 10-6 win at No. 6 singles, but Laura Olsen fell to the Pioneers' Kate Rasmussen 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 at the No. 2 spot.

Edgewood College, the top seed for the NAC Tournament which will be on May 4, will face Wheaton College (Ill.) on April 23rd in their next scheduled match.
