MEQUON, Wis. – Edgewood College and Concordia University Wisconsin traded a wild pair of comebacks in splitting the conference opening doubleheader for both teams. Edgewood College scored a total of six runs in the ninth and 10th innings for an 11-8 comeback victory in game one. The Falcons turned the tables in game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to steal a 12-11 victory.

Edgewood College (3-13, 1-1 NAC) rapped out a season-high 19 hits in the opening game. Every Eagle starter had a hit and seven of the nine starters in the lineup had at least two. The Eagles trailed 8-5 heading into the top of the ninth inning against Concordia Wisconsin closer Tyler Adams. The Eagles put Marc Ostrowski on second and Brad Clark on first on a single and an error, respectively. Zack Creekmore then lashed a double into the left center field gap to score both runners bring the Eagles within a run. Will Schlosser came on to pinch hit and stroked a 2-0 pitch into short left field. Creekmore turned on the jets around third and scored the tying run. Eagle reliever Nate Averill sent the Falcons down in order in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.

In the 10th, Jake Zadra and Ryan O'Dell singled with one out to set the stage for Clark. Clark smacked a single to right field scoring Zadra and pinch runner Pat Manning with the go-ahead runs. Creekmore followed with another double for an insurance run and an 11-8 lead. Averill returned to the hill and set down three more Falcons in order for his first career win.

Ostrowski and O'Dell each had three hits in the game, with Ostrowski recording a double. Creekmore and Alex Jaskulski each had two hits and three runs batted in. Zadra, Clark and Sean Thompson also had two hits apiece. Trevor Koehn started the game on the mound for the Eagles and lasted into the sixth inning before yielding to Jacob Yellovich and Brock McGinn. Tony Ales and Dan Hoppel pitched the seventh and eighth innings to get the game to Averill. The Eagles' pitching staff overcame 11 base on balls for the victory.

The Eagles scored four runs in the seventh inning of game two to grab an 11-8 lead and appeared to be on their way to a doubleheader sweep. Jaskulski and Zadra drew bases loaded walks to drive home the first two runs of the seventh inning, before O'Dell drove a single up the middle to bring home two more. However, Concordia Wisconsin (1-10, 1-1 NAC) scored one run in the bottom of the seventh and took a 12-11 lead with three runs in the eighth.

Edgewood College was poised to rally again in the ninth inning. Andrew Lauritzen singled and Jaskulski walked to put runners on first and second with nobody out. After Zadra flew out to right field, Lauritzen attempted to steal third, but was thrown out in a close play. Head coach Al Brisack objected to the call, but the play stood. On the next pitch Brandon Bartels grounded out to end the game.

Lauritzen and Ostrowski each had three hits in the game, with Lauritzen adding a double and each player totaling two runs batted in. Zadra and Clark each had two hits, with Zadra roping his second triple of the season down the left field line. Starting pitcher Ryan Busse threw five innings and allowed five earned runs. Taylor Hillmann started the seventh inning before giving way to Dan Hoppel who suffered the loss.

With Monday's game at UW-Platteville postponed, the Eagles next scheduled games are next weekend. Edgewood College travels to Benedictine University for a doubleheader on Saturday, before their home opener against Aurora University on Sunday at Stampfl Field in Verona.
