HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The warm Southern weather helped the Edgewood College men's tennis team break though for their first victory of the 2012-13 season on Monday. The Eagles swept through doubles play against Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham (N.J.) and then hung on for a narrow 5-4 victory. Monday morning, the Eagles dropped a 9-0 decision to Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio).

Edgewood College (1-10) had to work for every doubles point, with each match going to a score of 8-6. With a 3-0 lead, the Eagles needed two singles wins to snap their losing streak, but FDU-Florham (1-4) certainly made them earn it. Patrick Lagman pulled out a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles to bring the Eagles within a point of victory, but the Devils took wins at No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to set the stage for the Eagles' Tim Morgan and FDU-Florham's Ryan Kearns at No.3 singles. Kearns evened the match by winning the second set, but Morgan pulled out an exciting 10-3 victory in the supertiebreaker to put the Eagles in the win column 6-2, 0-6, 10-3.

In the early match, undefeated Baldwin Wallace (11-0) blanked the Eagles 9-0. Tyler Thompson put a string fight at No. 6 singles, but fell to the Yellowjackets' Dan Rowsey 6-2, 6-3. Lagman and Michael Wanta played the closest doubles match, losing 8-4 and the No. 2 position.

Edgewood College will meet the College of Wooster tomorrow in their third dual match of their spring trip.
