Eagles clinch title with win over MSOE

MADISON, Wis. – Senior night on Wednesday celebrated not only four of Edgewood College volleyball's soon to be graduates, but also something the Eagles have never accomplished before, back-to-back titles. Edgewood College downed MSOE 3-1 for its second consecutive Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season championship and just its third all-time.

After dismantling the Raiders in set one 25-7, the Eagles looked like they would cruise out of the Todd Wehr Edgedome with their sixth straight sweep. MSOE (10-13, 4-6 NACC) had other ideas as they stormed back with a 25-14 victory in the second frame. Edgewood College struggled hitting in the second set (-.135) while the Raiders pounded home 15 kills for a .290 attack percentage.

The loss seemed to motivate Edgewood College even more and the Eagles roared back to take the third set 25-16 behind 15 attacks and just five errors. Jordan Winkler provided a huge spark, connecting for eight kills in the set. The Eagles (23-6, 10-0 NACC) also tallied four blocks including a pair from Sarah Schuchhardt. Edgewood College then sealed their 10th straight victory with a 25-15 win in the fourth frame. Another 15-kill performance was headed by Jessica Martin, Katie Wedvick, and Winkler who combined for eight points.

Winkler posted a double-double with a team-high 15 kills and 18 digs while the seniors proved why they hold the best four-year record at Edgewood College. Martin tallied 10 kills while Wedvick added seven without an error for an attack percentage of .412. Samantha Himmelspach racked up nine digs and two of the Eagles' six aces. Swansby dished out 30 assists in addition to nine digs and two kills.

With the victory, Edgewood College also earned the number one seed for the conference tournament.

The Eagles will look for just their second all-time undefeated conference record on Saturday as they take on Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee. Live video will be provided with links on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
