Box Score MEQUON, Wis. – For the first time since September 6, the Edgewood College women's soccer team saw themselves on the opposite end of the scoreboard. The Eagles netted a late goal, but fell to Concordia University Wisconsin 2-1, ending their unbeaten streak at 13 games.
Edgewood College (12-3-1, 8-1 NACC) fired the first two shots of the game, but the Falcons dominated that category the rest of the half. Through the first 45 minutes, Concordia Wisconsin (9-7, 7-2 NACC) outshot the Eagles 13-3, but neither team connected for a score. Edgewood College's Tori Fortney snagged seven saves in the first half alone.
Fifty-two seconds after halftime, the Eagles found themselves in a hole for just the fourth time this season. A foul by the Eagles led to a free kick right outside the box for Concordia Wisconsin. Anna Hirssig took the set piece and placed a perfect ball out of the reach of Fortney for the game's first score. The Falcons continued to pressure the goal and in the 83rd minute, added to their lead. A defensive misplay left Emily Ciesielczyk one on one with Fortney and Concordia Wisconsin's forward converted from 10 yards out. After the score, the Eagles began to show better signs of possession and retaliated with a goal at 86:05. Jennifer Dailey found the ball in the Falcons' box and slid it to the goalie's left from under 10 yards out. The score, however, proved to be too little too late for Edgewood College as Concordia Wisconsin held on for the win.
Fortney tallied 10 saves while Alyssa Schmitt and Ariana Worthing split time in goal for Concordia Wisconsin. Schmitt allowed the Eagles' score, but secured the win for the Falcons.
With an 8-1 NACC record, the Eagles can still clinch the top seed for the conference tournament. With wins over their next two opponents Rockford University and MSOE, Edgewood College will earn the number one spot. Saturday's Senior Day matchup will begin at 1:30 p.m.
