HAVEN, Wis. – With momentum on their side, the Edgewood College men's golf team continued to roll. The Eagles have dominated all season and continued this weekend, jumping out to a 28-stroke lead following a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship team record 299 on Monday. The final two rounds will take place in April, with a conference championship and an NCAA bid on the line.
Even though Edgewood College carded their second-highest score of 312 on Sunday, the Eagles held a one stroke lead over MSOE. Kyle Bruce, Patrick Cahill, and Kenny Rucker all posted scores of 76 to lead the Eagles in the opening round of competition.
The Eagles were back to their low-scoring ways on Monday, posting their sixth sub-300 score this season. Edgewood College's 299 beat out MSOE's 2013 NACC Championship score of 303 for a new conference record. Cahill and Rucker continued to stay hot and each posted an even par 72 to remain tied at the top of the leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 148.
Bruce sits in third place out of the 50 NACC golfers after firing a 78 on day two. Senior Patrick Bohrer opened up the tournament with an 84, but improved on Monday with a 77 to crack the top ten. Michael Mathwick posted a 36-hole score of 174 to round out Edgewood College's top five.
This is only the third NACC Championship with the four round format and the Eagles' 28-stroke lead this year is the largest 36-hole lead by any team. The final two rounds of the conference championship will take place on April 21-22 at Stonebridge Country Club in Aurora, Illinois.Â
