Box Score
MADISON, Wis.- Going into halftime down a goal might be devastating to some teams, but that fact just made Edgewood College work harder. The Eagles came out strong and despite Ripon College striking first, Edgewood College got the last word and took the game 4-1.
The Eagles (3-1) came out against Ripon doing what they do best. Edgewood College attacked the goal with a total of 10 shots in the first half. Although they outshot the Red Hawks (2-1) by nine, the Eagles could not decipher Ripon goalkeeper Sidney Blodgett and failed to score before the break. The Red Hawks broke a scoreless tie when they converted their only shot of the first half in the 43rd minute for the 1-0 lead. After a scuffle right in front of the goal, Taylor Ziebol was able to sneak it under an Eagle defender's legs and past Tori Fortney in goal.
Whatever head coach Tim Alexander did at half worked because again Edgewood College had a double-digit shot total, but this time they cashed in on four of them. The first goal came off the right foot of Megan Falk who drilled it in the far upper corner off of a pass from Elaine Gerry to tie the game at one a piece. Emily Dorsett found Gerry 11 minutes later who was able to put it away for the score and give the Eagles the lead 2-1.
Just ten minutes after that, Ashley Alonso fired a shot at Blodgett who saved it. Gerry was right there for the rebound and netted her second goal of the game. In the 77th minute, after dribbling through a few defenders, Gerry found the back of the net again to give her a hat trick on the game and give Edgewood College the 4-1 lead.
Edgewood College dominated the shot total 21-2. Ripon's Blodgett made nine saves for the game, but it was not enough to outlast the powerful Eagle offense.
Edgewood College will have their second consecutive game at home when they face Beloit College on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available. These links can be found on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
