MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women had not given up a single conference goal this year, but could not harness Aurora University's second ranked offense. The Spartans netted three goals as the Eagles fell for the first time in conference this season 3-1.
Edgewood College (7-3, 3-1 NAC) was never able to ignite their offense in the cold fall weather as the Eagles only attempted seven shots. Aurora, on the other hand, fired 15 total shots. The Spartans cashed in on two corner kicks in the 20th and 26th minutes to grab an early 2-0 lead. Kaitlyn Crohan served up two ideal balls that Debbie McLaughlin and Nicole Wolfe headed in. One minute later, Nicci Bermudes added to the Spartans lead when she headed in a deep pass from Katie Brough.
Immediately following the third Spartan goal, Kristina Santaga and Elaine Gerry connected for an assist to Katie Pampuch who snuck her way past the Aurora (8-0-1, 5-0 NAC) defense and fired a shot past goalkeeper Liz Wong to cut Edgewood College's deficit to two, but that was as close as the Eagles got. Aurora proved why they are the NAC's top ranked defense as they held Edgewood College's offense, which was averaging 4.8 goals per game, to only one score.
Edgewood College's goalkeeper Kristi Frisch was handed her first loss of the season giving up all three goals in just over 28 minutes of play. Tori Fortney finished the game in goal for the Eagles and grabbed three saves. Liz Wong played all 90 minutes in goal for the Spartans and tallied three saves while allowing one goal.
The Eagles will head to Marian University this Tuesday to take on the Sabres at 7:00 p.m. Live stats will be provided. This link can be found at EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
