MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Edgewood College baseball team was on their way to a game one victory at Wisconsin Lutheran College when the wheels came off the bus. The Eagles committed six errors in the bottom of eighth inning, turning a 6-3 lead into a shocking 13-3 loss. Edgewood College was leading game two 4-0 when it was suspended after three innings due to darkness. The Eagles and Warriors will resume their game on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. UPDATE: The Eagles hung on to defeat the Warriors 5-4 in the completed game to earn a split in the season series.

Edgewood College (8-15, 5-6 NAC) opened a 2-0 lead with a Ben Jennings RBI single in the second and a Ryan O'Dell RBI groundout in the third. After the Warriors answered with two runs in the fifth inning, Ryan Walker doubled to lead off the seventh and eventually scored on a double play ground ball. Wisconsin Lutheran again tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a Cody Nevils RBI single.

After seven innings, the rains came and forced a weather delay. The Eagles seemed to seize control of the game scoring a run on an RBI single from Brad Clark, followed by a clutch two-out bases loaded two-run single for Eric Curtis for a 6-3 lead. However, the roof caved in on the Eagles in the bottom of the eighth. The Warriors received a leadoff home run from Brett Youngbeck eventually created a merry-go-round on the basepaths, scoring 13 runs on nine hits and the six Eagles errors.

Walker had a pair of doubles to lead the Eagles offense. Mike Selvaggi and Jake Zadra also had two hits, with Selvaggi recording a double. Starting pitcher Tony Ales went 6.2 innings striking out three and allowing just two earned runs. Casey Geissberger suffered the loss for the Eagles and fell to 1-2 on the season.

In the second game, the Eagles had just put up three runs in the third inning, thanks to singles from Clark and Ryan O'Dell and two Wisconsin Lutheran (7-20, 5-6 NAC) errors. The Eagles will return to Milwaukee on Tuesday to resume the second game.

UPDATE: Sophomore pitcher Taylor Hillmann overcame 10 hits from Wisconsin Lutheran to become the first Eagle pitcher to win two games this season. Hillmann struck out five batters and walked just one in the complete game victory.

After Wisconsin Lutheran scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Edgewood College answered with a run in the top of the sixth inning. Clark reached on an infield single and moved to second on O'Dell's sacrifice bunt. After advancing to third on a groundout, Clark raced home on a passed ball by Warrior catcher Tyler Schoen. The run proved important as the Warriors tacked on an unearned run in the seventh, but Hillmann escaped any more trouble for the win.

O'Dell went 3-for-3, matching his season-high in hits, to lead the Eagles at the plate. Clark went 2-for-4, while Joe Gura drove in two runs, one on a squeeze bunt and a second on a sacrifice fly.

Edgewood College will face 16th-ranked UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday before a pair of NAC doubleheaders over the weekend at Dominican University on Saturday and back home against MSOE on Sunday.
