MIDDLETON, Wis. - The Edgewood College men's golf team had hoped their annual spring quadrangular meet would be a final tune-up for the NCAA Championships. However, after the Eagles missed out on an automatic bid last week, it was UW-Eau Claire who used the Bishops Bay Country Club to make their final case for an at-large bid to the NCAAs.

The Blugolds scorched the 6,740-yard layout with a score of 291. They might have gone even lower had individual medalist Jake Erickson been in the lineup instead of playing as an individual. Erickson shot a 2-under-par 70 to pace the field of 34 golfers. Northern Athletics Conference automatic NCAA qualifier MSOE was second with a score of 303. UW-Stout and Edgewood College took the final two places with scores of 310 and 312, respectively, in a well-played tournament.

Andrew Cobb was the only Eagle to crack the top 10 in the tournament, shooting a 75 to place in a tie for 10th place. His brother Tyler Cobb was two shots back in 14th place with a 77. Andrew Gutzman and Ryan McCrumb also broke 80 with Gutzman firing a 78 and McCrumb scoring a 79 as an individual.

Seniors Jeff Kaether and Brent Quade concluded their Edgewood College careers in this, the final event of the 2010-11 season for the Eagles. Kaether shot 80 and Quade an 82. The Eagles squad was rounded out by Tony Thaden with an 82, Dan Schliesmann shooting 83, Logan Kranz carding an 86 and Austin Foley shooting 91.

Edgewood College, the 2010 Northern Athletics Conference champions, concludes the season with a team scoring average of 318.2.
