FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Last Saturday, any thoughts of the postseason from the Edgewood College baseball team seemed too far away to consider. However, seven days later, the Eagles have won five consecutive Northern Athletics Conference games and are tied for fourth in the games behind column. On Saturday at Herr-Baker Field, the Eagles swept Marian University 11-4 and 8-3 to improve to 8-6 in the league.

Edgewood College (13-17, 8-6 NAC) revived their offense with a 19-hit attack in the first game. The Eagles burst open a 2-1 game in the top of the sixth inning. After Scott Ortega doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third, he scored on a wild pitch from Marian starter Mitchell Gardner. Ryan Walker soon followed with a two-run single and Mike Selvaggi added a sacrifice fly to give Edgewood College a 6-1 lead.

In the seventh, Kyle Fischer and Walker sandwiched RBI doubles around a run scoring single by Eric Curtis to give Edgewood College a 10-1 lead. That would be more than enough runs for Eagle starter Trevor Koehn. Koehn missed a complete game by just one hitter, but still earned his third win of the season, giving up four earned runs on eight hits while striking out four batters.

Ortega set a new career-high with four hits in the game, while Walker tied his career-high with four hits. Ortega was 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored, while Walker went 4-for-6 with a double and a career-high four RBI. Selvaggi went 3-for-5 with a double.

Game two seemed headed toward a close finish, until Ryan O'Dell stepped to the plate in the top of the sixth inning. O'Dell snapped a 2-2 tie with a three-run home run, scoring Ortega and Alex Jaskuski. The blast was O'Dell's second home run of the season.

The Eagles put the game out of the reach of Marian University (9-13, 6-6 NAC) with three more runs in the seventh. Treye Dennison reached on an error and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Later Jaskulski drove in Walker and Jake Zadra with a two-run single to make the score 8-2. Starting pitcher Glenn Nowell didn't need any additional help, firing his second consecutive complete game victory. Nowell gave up just two earned runs on nine hits and struck out four batters.

Walker and Jaskulski each finished with two hits with Walker adding a double. O'Dell lead the team with three runs batted in, courtesy of his long bomb. Zadra recorded hits in his 13th and 14th consecutive game, extending his career-long hitting streak.

Edgewood College now faces a crucial Easter Monday doubleheader at home against Wisconsin Lutheran College. The Warriors, Benedictine University and Edgewood College, are all five games behind the NAC leader Concordia University Chicago and tied for fourth place in the league. The top four teams will qualify for the NAC Tournament in May. First pitch at Stampfl Field on Monday is set for 12:00 p.m.
