AURORA, Ill. - The Edgewood College men's golf team fought off the cold, damp elements at Stonebridge Country Club, but ultimately they could not fight off a surging MSOE squad. The Raiders erased the Eagles' 11-stroke advantage carried over from the 2010 NAC Fall Championship to win the NAC Automatic Qualifier Meet. MSOE clinched their second NCAA Division III Championships berth by a total of eight strokes over the second place Eagles.

The conference coaches elected to play 27 holes on Monday in anticipation of rain arriving on Tuesday afternoon. After the first 18 holes, MSOE had trimmed Edgewood College's lead down to one stroke, by shooting 318 compared to the Eagles 328. The teams went back out to play the front nine, and MSOE gained control of the automatic bid by three shots as darkness set in.

Edgewood College needed to make up ground in the last remaining nine holes on Tuesday morning, but the comeback never materialized. MSOE finished with a score of 311 for the second round and 629 for the tournament. Their combined score of 1,270 over the two championship events beat Edgewood College's 72-hole total of 1,278.

The Eagles score of 648 placed them second in event, six shots ahead of Aurora University. Tyler Cobb and Logan Kranz were consistent leaders for Edgewood College. Tyler Cobb shot a 79 in round one and finished tied for fourth overall with a score of 159. Kranz placed seventh with a two-day total of 161.

Andrew Gutzman recovered from a tough first day to shoot a season-best tying 79 in round two for a score of 164. Andrew Cobb and Brent Quade shot 165 and 167, respectively, to complete the team. All five Eagle golfers placed in the top 16 in the 47-golfer field.

Edgewood College will complete their regular season on April 29, by hosting their Spring Quadrangular at Bishops Bay Country Club in Middleton.
